The line graph illustrates the change of price for different categories of food and beverages such as fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, and carbonate drinks from 1978 to 2009.

The price of fruits and vegetables started at around 50 in 1975 and began rise gradually until over 200 in 1997, same with the price of sugars and sweets. The line graph illustrates changes in the prices of food items (fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, carbonated drinks) in the US within a span of 30 years, while also showing how consumer pricing increased or decreased over time.

Overall, fruits and vegetables had the highest cost, with carbonated drinks having the lowest. There was also a general increase in the prices over the years, save for some fluctuations in between.

For two food items (Fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets), the pattern seemed to almost be the same. Both started at over 50, reaching the 100-mark four years later. Each had a sharp rise and decline in 1991 and 1993 respectively. They eventually reached their peaks at different time periods (1999 for the fruits and 2001 for the sweets). After some fluctuations in the following years, both settled around the 300 price range by 2009.

Unlike the two mentioned above, Carbonated drinks had little to no hiccups on the way. It started with a slight incline, before gradually increase to almost 200 by 2009. As for the consumer pricing, except for a sharp increase in 1993, followed by a decline two years later, it also seemed to keep increasing to almost the same range as the drinks.

The graph illustrates changes in the price of fresh fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, and carbonated drinks in the USA between the years 1978 and 2009.

Overall, it is clear that the prices of all product groups increased in the USA over the period shown, despite some fluctuations. The price changes in two product groups ( fruits and vegetables, and sugars and sweets) were higher than the consumer-pricing and carbonated drinking.

In 1979, the prices of all product groups and consumer price index were almost the same. The figure for carbonated drinking showed parallelism with the consumer price index, except for the years between 1991 and 1995. By 1993, the carbonated drinking price reached its highest rate, however, the two product groups dramatically fell down (210 and 110, respectively).

The prices for fresh fruits and vegetables rose sharply, especially after 1995. The prices reached at over 300 in the late 2000s.
