The table illustrates the four types of indicators for social and economic factors in 1994 for four different countries.

Overall, it can be seen that annual income per person and life expectancy at birth are directly proportional to each other. Moreover, the higher the daily calorie supply, the higher the adult literacy rate.

The annual income per person and life expectancy is highest in Japan at 15760 dollars and 78 years respectively. This value is followed by Canada which possesses an annual income per person of 11100 dollars and a life expectancy of 76 years. In contrast, Zaire only has an annual income of 130 dollars and a life expectancy of 47 years. Peru is in a similar situation to Zaire. From this data, we can see a downward trend in length of life expectancy as annual income per person decreases.

Zaire, which has a daily caloire supply per person of 1749 has an adult literacy rate of 34%. Subsequently, Peru that has a daily calorie intake per person of 1927 has an adult literacy rate of 68%, which is twice of Peru’s. On the other hand, Canada that has a daily calorie intake per person of 3326 has a 99% adult literacy rate. Japan shows similar values to Canada. This highlights the fact there is a upward trend in adult literacy rate as daily calorie intake per person increases.
