They are unnecessary because they add nothing to your message.

The first way to avoid filler words is to check the sentence and see if the meaning changes without them. If it remains the same, you can remove them.
1. Do you really feel cold?
 - Do you feel cold?

 2. I suppose we are going there.
 - We are going there.
For Example
In order to avoid using filler words while speaking, slow down your speech. It will help you plan before speaking and make you more confident.
A momentary pause can be more effective than using filler words.

It will help you reflect rather than making your speech meaningless.
