Doubtful on whether to give an opinion or not in the essays for IELTS Writing Task 2? Get your answer in this story.
There are different types of essays in the IELTS Writing Task 2 - Opinion Advantage & Disadvantage, Cause & Solution, Discussion and Two-part/Direct.
You should be aware that the criterion, Task Response, is responsible for 25% of your Writing Task 2 score.
Therefore, to decide whether to include your opinion in your essay, you should carefully read the instructions given for each task.
Like, if you are asked to write a direct opinion essay, you have to give an opinion.
"Some examples are:
“What is your view?”
“Do you agree or disagree?”
“To what extent do you agree?”
“Do you think…?”"
But, for the other types of essays, if you give an opinion without being asked, it means you didn’t attempt the task correctly.
"For example:
Water scarcity is a serious problem in many countries. What are the causes of this? And what solutions can be done by individuals and the government?"
Here, your opinion is not asked. So, if you provide it, it might reduce your score.
