Saying Umm Ahh in IELTS Speaking

We normally use fillers like 'umm' & 'ahh' when we cannot convery properly or we hesitate.

Listeners become distracted when you pause, preventing them from understanding what you're saying.

Moreover, you should know that under the Speaking evaluation criteria, Fluency accounts for 25%.

In order to be considered fluent, one must have the ability to communicate without hesitation, which is one of the elements of this marking criteria.

So, umm and ahh can interrupt the rhythm of conversation and reduce the scores.

But, there is no need to worry. There are ways in which you can solve this problem.

Do not be in a hurry. Try to remove redundant words, record what you are saying and last but not least, practise enough to make your speech eloquent.
