Types Of IELTS Writing Task 1 Topics - Academic

Writing Task 1 task is not the same for IELTS Academic and General. While the former has report writing, the latter is based on letters.

For Academic candidates, the report is based on different types of graphs, diagrams, or a combination of both.

"1. Bar Graph It comes with two axes and rectangular bars, either displayed vertically or horizontally, showing changes over a period. "

"2. Line Graph It has two axes - while the X-axis shows the time, the Y-axis shows what is being measured. The line graph shows how data changes over time. "

"3. Pie Chart IELTS Pie Charts are circular charts divided into sections or pie slices, usually representing percentages of data. "

"4. Table Chart Describing a table is similar to defining a bar graph. You need to compare and contrast the data, usually numbers, given in the form of a table."

"5. Maps Here, you will have to compare maps of the same location in different periods so point out the developments. "

"6. Process Diagrams You will have to introduce the diagram, either a manufacturing process or a natural one, explain each step as a sequence, and include details."

"7. Combinations It is mostly a combination of two graphs or charts, for example, two line graphs, a pie chart & a bar graph, a line graph and a table, etc."
