They help to guide the reader through the essay & assist in reading it from the writer’s perspective.
Signposting can be used in your introduction and throughout your whole essay. You should include signposting elements in each paragraph.
There are two types of signposts: Major Signposts & Linking Words and Short Phrases
Major signposts examples are: 'this essay critically examines', 'one aspect which illustrates', 'building on from the idea that', etc.
