With an urge to fulfill the gap created by the pause in the pandemic, the Canadian government is sending out a considerable amount of invitations and clearing backlogs to lure in more foreign skilled labor.

In the month of June 2022, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted two draws on 8th June and 22nd June and has issued 1568 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in total. While the former was the 12th round of invitations under the Express Entry Program 2022 and 224th overall, the latest one was the 13th round under Express Entry of this year and 225th overall.
The 225th draw, held on June 22 at 14:13:57 UTC, invited 636 candidates. The cutoff score of the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) was 752 points, which was 44 points lower than the previous one. Considering the fact that 600 points are automatically added to the base human capital score, candidates required 152 points to qualify for this draw.
Draw No. | Date of Draw | ITAs issued | CRS cut-off |
---|---|---|---|
#224 | June 8, 2022 | 932 | 796 |
#225 | June 22, 2022 | 636 | 752 |
A tie-breaking rule was also applied in this draw which mentioned that PNP-linked Express Entry profiles that were submitted before April 19, 2022, at 13:45:45 UTC were to be given preference. IRCC applies this rule in order to avoid disputes in the rankings under the Express Entry system, which mostly helps when there is a case of two or more candidates getting the same CRS score. The invited candidates have only 60 days to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
Since September 2021, the draws have only been focusing on Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. This has caused frustration among many candidates who are interested in the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class category and are waiting for their ITAs. It is mostly caused by the fact that their IELTS or similar test scores might expire if this trend continues. Consequently, the respected Canadian minister for immigration, Mr. Sean Fraser, has declared to CIC at the Collision Conference in Toronto that the 225th draw will probably be the last draw under the single economic class category as from July 6th, all the other categories will resume sending invitations. It was also noted that new applications under these streams would be processed within the 6-month service standard. This news is like a breath of fresh air for candidates patiently waiting for their chance to settle in Canada.
Till now, Canada has issued 10,788 PNP invitations in 2022, which might break the previous records of 114,431 ITAs in 2021 to the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and PNP applicants and 107,350 ITAs in 2020. So, if you desire to move to Canada, now is the best time to start preparing for it.
