Have you submitted your application for the Express Express program and want to learn more about how your Express Entry application is processed?
Well, according to a report, through the CEC (Canadian Experience Program) draw, IRCC has recently invited about 6,000 Express Entry candidates for permanent residency. In addition, 1,000 more candidates have been invited to apply than in prior draws.
What are Express Entry Draws?
Canadian Express Entry draws were introduced in 2015 in the Express Entry program, which manages three federal immigration programs
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- Canadian Experience Program (CEC)
A draw is a process of selecting the candidates randomly. Contrary to normal draw, Express Entry draws are the final cut-off list of CRS scores of the candidates who qualify for the permanent residency application. The Comprehensive Ranking Approach (CRS) uses a point-based system to rank applicants. The highest-scoring profiles are chosen from the Express Entry pool and get (ITA) invitations to apply for permanent residence.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is a web-based application system designed to expedite the processing of permanent residency applications in Canada.
How to process an application through Express Entry?
To understand how to complete an Express Entry application, you must first:
- Find out if you’re eligible for Express Entry and which immigration program you’d want to apply for.
- Prepare your paperwork in accordance with the program’s needs after you’ve decided.
- Fill your Express Entry application and upload all of your updated papers. Your application will be admitted into the applicant pool, where it will be rated according to the program and the CRS point system.
- You will receive an ITA (invitation to apply) for permanent residency if your application gets approved. You will be given 60 days to submit your application for permanent residence.
Types of Express Entry draws
There are 3 types of Express Entry draws conducted by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and Canada). They are:
- Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP) draws: The Federal Skilled Trade Program qualifies eligible individuals for the Express Entry pool in this draw. In general, these programs’ candidates have the lowest CRS scores when compared to other programs.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws: Candidates with at least one year of Canadian work experience are eligible to enter the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws.
- Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws: In this draw, target candidates who have been nominated by a Canadian province to receive permanent residence are listed.
Besides the 3 programs listed above, there is also something called all program draws. All program draws are not assigned particular drawings; rather, the applicant’s overall CRS score is taken into account for this draw, regardless of the applicant’s program type. For example, a program such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) falls under this category.
Express Entry Draws 2021
The CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System), which provides each candidate a CRS score based on 1200 points, ranks all Express Entry profiles against one another.
The Canadian government conducts an Express Entry draw every two weeks or so. Each draw has a different cut-off score, representing the lowest-ranking candidate’s CRS score to receive an (ITA) invitation to apply for permanent residence.

Tie-Breaking Rule
This was introduced in November 2017 to exercise control over the number of ITAs issued in each draw. If multiple applicants achieve the CRS cut-off score, the IRCC employs the tie-breaking rule. Thus, an ITA is given only to those candidates who score equal to or above the CRS cut-off score and have submitted their profiles earlier, and have his or her profile listed in the Express Entry pool for a longer period of time.
