Meaning:
A person who loves the sea
Origin:
Thalassophile comes from the Greek words thalassa(meaning sea), and phil(meaning love).
Examples:
- Jane goes to her beach house any chance she gets. She’s such a thalassophile!
- The amount of time John spends sailing, he considers himself a thalassophile.
- Moby Dick has turned many readers into thalassophiles.
- Whether it be Captain Ahab, Odysseus, or Sinbad, the sea calls to all men. But thalassophiles understand this better than anyone.
- I would be a thalassophile, but I’m petrified of drowning!
- It was my summer in Greece that turned me into a thalassophile.
