Talking about a meal that you drool over or the meal that stimulates your appetite is somewhat easier to present a discourse on and this is one of the most common topics of the IELTS Speaking cue cards. That said, there could be other subtopics as well pertaining to a meal. Therefore, it is imperative that you become aware of that well in advance and start approaching it with a punctilio that you would be able to satisfy the appetite of the evaluator as well.
First of all, the topics on ‘Meal’ are very generic, and hence it wouldn’t be difficult for you to talk about that. However, in that case, you would have certain expectations set as far as your eloquence, organization of your ideas and coherence of your narrative go. It would be best if you were cognizant of the possible questions that may be asked and some of them are-
- What is your favorite meal you ever had?
- What is the meal that you detested (hated) the most?
- What, according to you, are the factors that make a meal tastier?
- Describe the meal that you had on your last birthday?
- What are the memories associated with the meal you had on your first day of college/work?
This way, there could be a diverse cascade of questions and it is not always about the cliched ‘favorite meal’. Instead, at times, there could be some tricky and thought-provoking questions as well.
