Where in your town/city the neighbourhood was?

I would now love to talk about my tiny hill station, surrounded by fields and hills, called Kodaikanal. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows your name, and the local bakery’s smell wafts through the air. Sadly, I’ve moved away since those childhood days, chasing dreams in a bigger city.

What kind of people lived there? 

The town has changed a bit since then – there are more stores now, and people seem busier. Yet, that neighbourly spirit and the familiar faces in the grocery store checkout line linger, bridging the gap between then and now. While I no longer call it home, I still think it’s a good place for kids to grow up. The streets may have seen a few more cars, but the community vibe persists. It’s a place where children can ride bikes until the street lights flicker on, and parents can trust that someone nearby is always keeping an eye out. That hasn’t changed, and I find solace in that constant.

What it was like to live in this neighbourhood? 

It was a peaceful and content place to live in. The changes reflect the inevitable march of time and progress, yet the essence of the town, the memories of playing hide-and-seek till the stars took over, still make it a warm chapter in my life.

The charm remains, reminding me that even if I can’t go back, the town’s heart is eternally young.

Where in your town/city the neighbourhood was?

I’m thrilled to share my memories of the place where I spent my childhood – Raigarh, a cosy town that’s not just a spot from my past but holds a special place in my heart.

But now, I’ve moved on from that haven, and I’m pretty certain it has seen its fair share of changes. After all, time brings transformations to everything.

What kind of people lived there? 

Picture it more like a city suburb, the kind that makes a 7 or 8-year-old like me feel on top of the world. Before settling there, my folks endured the hustle and bustle of a major city, and they wisely chose this small town to give us a taste of the countryside vibe with some amazing people around who would lend hands for any kind of help, anytime! They were as friendly as pie, and there was a real sense of community where neighbours were like family.

What it was like to live in this neighbourhood? 

In this beautiful place, everything was practically within arm’s reach – from the breakfast joint to the movie theatre and stadiums for all sorts of games. Just a 15-minute bicycle ride on the brick-made pavement led me to a breathtaking lake and endless cornfields. The streets, though few, were wide enough for my biking adventures.

To mention, that place was an absolute gem for a laidback kid like me. It was peaceful, and scenic, and boasted a clean environment. All in all, it was a piece of cake growing up in that simple and lovely town. If I got a chance, I would spend the rest of my life there, happily!

I was born and raised in a delightful suburban area known as Trichy. This small town, situated in the southern part of the country, was my haven throughout childhood and adolescence. After completing my college education, I ventured to the capital city for higher studies. Although I no longer reside in my hometown, I make regular visits to reconnect with my parents and other family members who still call it home.

What kind of people lived there? 

The neighbourhood was full of different kinds of families. Some were just starting, some were busy with work, and others were enjoying their retirement. It was a cool mix of young and old people. What made our neighbourhood awesome was how we all looked out for each other, we knew each other’s names and always had a friendly chat. We all worked together to keep our place clean and safe. Living here wasn’t just about having a house – it was like being part of a big, happy family!

What it was like to live in this neighbourhood? 

My hometown was just like a dream place as it was next to a big lake and had lots of open spaces, like cornfields, pretty gardens, and parks! The streets were wide and nice and the place was so green, the weather was always nice, and the air was super fresh.

6. Do you think that children should always go to the school nearest to where they live?

It’s good if children can go to the school near their home. It makes it easier for them to get there, and they can make friends who live nearby. But sometimes, it’s also important to check if the school is good for the child and meets their needs. So, it depends on what’s best for the kid.
