Sample Answer 1
Here is the sample for “describe a trip which was not up to your expectations” topic.
To be honest, I am not very finicky and adjust to any situation, especially when I travel. Yet, I have been to some places which did not live up to the hype that it has created among people.
- where you went
I love to spend quality time on off-beat beaches. In the past, I have visited many such destinations as Gokarna, Mandvi Beach in Gujarat, etc. Being aware of my fascination with beaches, recently, one of my friends proposed that I visit Alibaug near Mumbai. There are several other beaches around that area, like Nagaon, Murud, Varsoli, and Kashid, to name a few.
- what you did
- what happened
I was quite eager to scour these areas. But to my dismay, when I arrived at Nagaon beach, I was disappointed with the cleanliness on and around the place. All the other beaches were in the same condition. Dead fishes and crabs were scattered on the sand, which I found out were the leftovers of coastal fishing. Although the number of tourists was less, the empty bottles or debris they had left behind were huge in number. So, I scanned around the places, tried out some local delicacies which I thoroughly enjoyed and cut short my journey.
- and explain why the trip was not up to your expectations.
Our planet has provided us with a variety of resources and untamed magnificence and it is our duty to maintain them. Unfortunately, with our urge to modernize and enjoy ourselves, we have become so egocentric as to destroy these natural gifts. Even though I did get some much-needed vacation in Alibaug, I did not enjoy the beauty I had expected.

- where you went
I love travelling, even if it is to places that don’t have a lot of tourist spots. So when I go on a trip, I try to keep an open mind, to be flexible and let everything go in a flow. But there was one particular trip that I was really dissapointed about. The trip to Hai Phong.
- what you did
- what happened
- and explain why the trip was not up to your expectations.
About 2 weeks ago, I had to take a business trip to Hai Phong to meet our company’s distributors. My department, Marketing, had some activation programs there so I had to go on a one-day trip to Hai Phong. I had never been in Hai Phong before and I was looking forward to this trip. Sea foods are my favourite so I thought that this would be good chance for me to taste local sea foods. However, on the day when I arrived at Hai Phong, we had a long meeting with distributors and partners and I was extremely exhausted. After finishing, our partners invited us to a meal at a restaurant. It was quite good but there was not much difference with Hanoi’s foods. I had expected to be taken to a good seafood restaurant instead. Thus, I was a bit disappointed because we had to come back to Hanoi by 5p.m. Fortunately, when I finished my tasks, my old friend who lived in Hai Phong called me, offering to take me around the city. With him, I could enjoy the beauty of this city for a while, and taste the special local bread. I have to say that those 2 hours saved my trip or I would have been extremely disappointed.
