Describe a special day you remember well.
You should say:
- Where you were?
- Who you were with?
- What you did?
- And explain why you remember it well?
Sample Answer 1
Life is full of ups and downs. While we cherish the ‘ups’, the ‘downs’ teach us a lesson that is valuable to us. Even though I have had very few unforgettable moments in my life, all of them are very close to my heart. One such special day was my 18th birthday.
- Where you were?
- Who you were with?
Honestly, birthdays are not very important to me. It is just another regular day, but with appetizing food made by my mother. So, the day began likewise as I went to college and attended my classes. When I got back home in the afternoon, I got one of the most memorable surprises of my life. My mother gave me a heavy brown envelope. When I opened it and poured the contents, a box slid off it. It contained the most exquisite neckpiece, with a diamond pendant. It was accompanied by a handwritten letter from my father. As I read the remarkable words of my father, who was posted in another state and could not be with me, tears welled up in my eyes.
- What you did?
Even I got to know that my mother had arranged a surprise party on our roof, which she had decorated wonderfully. As my friends and acquaintances came, I cut the homemade cake, thanked everyone for the gifts and their presence, and enjoyed the remaining time playing games.
- And explain why you remember it well?
The memory of that particular remains etched in my mind not only because I entered the world of adulthood but also because the wise and encouraging words of my father and the unconditional love and support of my mother that I realized I had with me made me the person I am today.

Days pass by quickly. But there are certain days which leave a mark on our memories. The “Farewell Party” in my school was one such memorable day. All of us were excited about the thought of pursuing University life. But we were equally sad that we would be parting ways. So it was a time of mixed emotions.
- Where you were?
- Who you were with?
- What you did?
We were asked to assemble in the auditorium by 4:00 PM sharp. All of us were in our best attire. The principal began with a welcome note after which there was a band playing some songs. It was followed by a magic show. Then the principal gave us a surprise. She announced that a mic would be passed and anyone who wished to share their experiences can do it. Initially, we were hesitant and kept passing the mic. Suddenly, a student started talking. She spoke with such emotion that some of us were moved to tears. I was sitting beside my best friend, and we held each other tightly. The thought struck us that we would get separated soon. Suddenly, my friend grabbed the mic and started talking. She spoke about our teachers, exams and finally about our friendship. As she sat down, tears welled up in my eyes. We hugged each other and started crying. Many such friends followed suit. We were trying to recover from the thought of getting separated when I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was our principal. She took a chair and spoke at length on different stages in her life and how she managed to remain in touch with all her friends. She also consoled us that we would be alright after some time.
- And explain why you remember it well
We felt relieved. Her advice enlightened us that we should make an effort to stay connected even though life pulls us in different directions. Those words still ring in my ears. It was because of her that the day became unforgettable and special. I followed her advice and found time to talk to my friend even in the busiest moments of my life.
