How much time is allotted for the Writing portion of the PTE exam?

The PTE exam combines the Speaking and Writing portions of the test into one section. The total duration for the Speaking and Writing section of the PTE test is 54-67 minutes. The time allotted for the Writing portion of this section is approximately 30 minutes.

How many essays should be written in PTE?

One of the task types included in the Writing portion of the PTE exam is the 'Write Essay'. In this question type, candidates are required to write an argumentative essay within a given word limit. The number of questions that can be asked for this task ranges from 1 to 2. Thus, candidates can be asked to write 1-2 essays for the PTE.

What are the tasks in the Writing segment of the PTE test?

The Writing section of the PTE Academic test consists of two tasks. The first writing task is 'Summarize Written Text', where candidates have to summarize a given text. The second writing task is 'Write Essay', where candidates have to write an argumentative essay on a given topic.

Does going over the word limit in PTE Writing affect my score?

Yes, not following the given word limit can affect your PTE Writing score. The word limit for 'Summarize Written Text' is 5-75 words and the same for the 'Write Essay' type is 200-300 words. Writing less than 200 words or more than 300 words will decrease your score for the latter. Writing less than 120 words or more than 380 words will lead to scoring 0 for your 'Write Essay' response. Similarly, if you write less than five or more than 75 words, your Summarize Written Text response will be scored 0.

How are the answers for PTE Writing scored?

Several factors determine the PTE Writing score of a candidate. For the 'Summarize Written Text' task, the score depends on how well the main points of text are summarized with proper grammar, decent vocabulary and following the given word limit. Again, for the Write Essay item type, the factors determining the score are Content, Structure and Coherence, Form, Linguistic Range, Grammar Usage, Vocabulary and Spelling.
