Describe a New Planet where You would Like to Live – IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer 1
- Where is it?
There is currently no other known planet where we can live besides Earth. However, recent discussions about life on Mars have sparked some interest. If another planet with the potential to sustain us existed, Mars would likely be the most viable option.
- How do you know about it?
I was scrolling through Twitter recently and I came across a post by Elon Musk discussing the possibility of future human life on Mars. His frequent tweets on the subject have undoubtedly piqued public interest in Mars. The exploration of Mars is ongoing, and there’s a growing belief that someday we might even be able to purchase land and live in houses there. While the timeline remains uncertain, the possibility certainly sparks excitement.
- How would you feel about it?
The thrill of living on a new planet would be electric! Picture the alien landscape bathed in an unfamiliar sky.The moons and even the sun, how different would they appear? A wave of emotions, for sure – the strangeness might be overwhelming at first. But that initial shock would melt away, replaced by pure excitement for this incredible new adventure.
- And why would you like to live there?
Earth is beautiful, but pollution and trash are getting worse. Even a new planet might face this later. For now, I dream of a planet with clean air, few people, lots of nature, and most importantly people who love to take care of nature. Imagine breathing fresh air with buildings smaller than trees. My love for nature is why I’d move there, to help keep it clean and once again breathe fresh air.

Currently, Earth is the only known planet with conditions suitable for life. Let’s imagine such a planet exists within our solar system.

The planet does not exist now but given the rapid pace of scientific advancement and our growing population, the possibility of finding a habitable planet within our solar system in the future seems increasingly high.
- How would you feel about it?
This new world is a rush of feelings. No one knows me here, so I can be whoever I want. It’s a chance to forget past mistakes and start fresh. I can change careers, study, or just follow my dreams! It’s a lot to take in, but I will be happy for this second chance at life.

Describe a New Planet where You would Like to Live – IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer 3
- Where is it?
The rapid pace of scientific progress is truly exciting! We’re constantly hearing about discoveries of water on celestial bodies and intriguing signals from deep space. These advancements fuel our curiosity about the possibility of extraterrestrial life. While the notion of purchasing land on the Moon captured the public imagination for a while, there’s currently no definitive proof of life on any planet besides Earth. However, for the sake of this discussion, let’s explore the fascinating hypothetical scenario of a habitable Moon.
- How do you know about it?
A recent news story sparked discussions about the possibility of purchasing land on the Moon. This topic, fueled by social media influencers and even humorous comments, captured public attention for a while. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but for a while, there was a lot of talk about people being able to buy land on the Moon.
- How would you feel about it?
Living on the moon will be a surreal experience, a childhood dream finally taking flight. I’ll be standing on its dusty surface, breathing (through my fancy helmet, of course) the thin air. Imagine gazing up at Earth, a luminous blue marble hanging in the inky blackness of space – my home planet transformed into a breathtaking celestial spectacle! It’ll be like stepping into a futuristic fairytale, a once impossible dream becoming a thrilling reality.
- And why would you like to live there?
Living on a new planet sounds amazing. It would be a chance to completely reinvent myself, make new friends from all over, and experience a whole new life with exciting jobs and adventures. Leaving everything behind wouldn’t be easy, but the possibility of something so unexpected and totally different is super exciting.

IELTS Part 3 Follow-Up Questions
- Do you think living on a new planet would solve all of humanity’s problems?
For a while, things might be pretty normal. Everyone will be curious to figure out what’s going on, scrambling to find the resources they need to survive. Let’s face it, they probably left the old planet for a reason, right? But even the newness wears off eventually, and humans do get bored easily. Competition will always be there, that’s just a fact. So yeah, there’ll probably come a time when the excitement fades and people start getting frustrated, and then the classic human problems will probably creep back in. It seems like no matter where we go, those problems always find a way to follow us. Maybe there’s a happy period for a bit, but not forever.
- Would you prefer to live in a city or a more rural area on this new planet? Why?
Given the opportunity to choose, I would gravitate towards a rural setting. The tranquility of nature and the absence of a bustling urban environment perfectly suit my personality. As a quiet person who cherishes the natural world, a rural life aligns more closely with my aspirations for a simpler and more peaceful existence.
- Do you think it’s important for humans to continue exploring space? Why or why not?
Space travel is bound to happen, no matter who does it first. Just look at how much technology has changed in the past hundred years! Video calls and phones – who would have thought? Exploring space is like that. As long as nobody gets hurt, it’s all about finding new things, which is pretty awesome.
- What skills do you think would be most valuable for the first settlers on this new planet?
The most important thing on this new planet should be kindness for everyone. It’s a chance to start fresh. People should be accepting and understanding, not judging others. We can build a culture like that, where everyone feels welcome. Plus, the leaders we choose need to be smart and good at making decisions, especially about how to manage the planet and who to bring on board.
