Education systems worldwide offer an insight into various topics ranging from mathematics, language, science to history, society, and art. Students worldwide avail themselves an experience in these subjects and furbish their creativity while aligning their thoughts and prospective careers with them. I feel that they should be offered financial education on top of these subjects, and this essay will expand on my perspective.
Financial independence is necessary as it affords an individual the luxury to be in control of his/her life’s decisions. Today, financial education makes achieving this easier as one can deal with the nuances of the financial world with ease. Additionally, financial education can instill financial discipline within a child as he will be introduced to the prospect of saving and investing and how to reap their benefits.
Further, financial education includes solutions to complex but obligatory procedures like income tax filing, income tax rebates and returns, etc. Even adults occasionally face hiccups while undergoing this process, so enlightening a child can help ease the process and simplify the future. Moreover, finance is relevant to everyone, hence educating oneself in this paradigm can only be beneficial.
There are arguments against this notion, as people think that children are already burdened beyond their capacity in the existing educational framework. Such people argue that the current subjects inculcate significant learning within students during the formative years. But, even with these pointers, the relevance of financial education has never been in doubt.
In conclusion, there is a growing feeling that the education system is in line for due modifications, and thoughts indeed align towards introducing financial education in schools as it prepares children for a more practical approach towards their tomorrow.
