Band 9 Sample Answer 1
Introduction
Globalization has been one of the most seminal phenomenons that humanity has experienced. This process of making the world more close-knit has been proliferating as we proceed into the 21st century. However, this occurrence has a positive and a negative side like any other. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss both the pros and cons of globalization and why I believe the gains are far greater than the losses. Body Paragraph 1 (Advantages) First of all, we must acknowledge the fact that globalization has led to a dramatic increase in the employment rate and job opportunities worldwide. Since multinational corporations are expanding their operations day by day, more jobs are created than ever before. Secondly, an individual now has the privilege of purchasing superior merchandise produced in a different part of the world due to a rise in imports and exports globally. Thirdly, the exchange of different aspects of cultures worldwide has brought people close to each other, creating a single human community. Moreover, consumers can access such commodities without paying huge markups thanks to more liberal tariffs and tax obligations. Body Paragraph 2 (Disadvantages) However, globalization also brings some drawbacks to the table, and they are notable enough to engender concerning issues. For instance, global corporations are able to outsource their manufacturing activities to developing countries due to cheap labour costs. It enables the production of low-quality products which, although cheap, may not be satisfactory. Apart from that, the rise of franchises also poses a threat to indigenous businesses in nations where the locals are struggling to compete with major organizations. Conclusion Finally, I would conclude by saying that we all have experienced the benefits and the shortcomings of globalization, and the degree of either one may vary from country to country. Even so, I believe that on a universal scale, the benefits have surpassed the disadvantages. |

Band 9 Sample Answer 2
Introduction
Globalization, the process of increased interconnectedness and interdependence among countries, has multitude of advantages and disadvantages in our rapidly changing world. As we live in the twenty-first century, this constant evolution and ability to adjust to new resources has become more demanding. The following paragraphs will go over the positive and negative facets of globalization and support my opinion that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Body Paragraph 1 (Advantages) One of the most consequential advantages of globalization is economic growth. By breaking down trade barriers and allowing for the flow of goods and services across borders, it has fueled monetary expansion in many countries. This leads to increased job prospects, downsized poverty, and ameliorated standards of living. Moreover, globalization also offers consumers access to a wider variety of goods and services. From exotic foods to cutting-edge technology, people can enjoy the benefits of products and innovations from around the world. In addition, cultural exchange is a crucial advantage of globalization. It stimulates the sharing of ideas, customs, and traditions, fostering a richer, more diverse global culture. Furthermore, technological advancement is another pivotal benefit. As ideas and knowledge spread across borders, innovation accelerates, leading to momentous breakthroughs in diverse fields. Body Paragraph 2 (Disadvantages) However, globalization also has its drawbacks. Firstly, income inequality is a major concern. While it may drive financial growth, the benefits are not always evenly distributed. The wealthy often reap more advantages than the marginalized, exacerbating income disparities within and between countries. Secondly, cultural erosion is another downside, as the homogenizing influence of globalization can imperil local customs and languages. Lastly, environmental concerns arise from overconsumption and resource depletion, as globalization fuels an insatiable demand for goods. Conclusion From my perspective, the benefits of economic growth, improved access to products and ideas, and cultural exchange overpower the challenges it poses. Therefore, it is vital to manage the adverse effects of globalization while capitalizing on its benefits to create a more equitable and sustainable global society. |
