We all know the adage – ‘Rome was not built in a day’. Many draw inspiration from this proverb to never give up. But, for me, it is a reminder to work hard enough to visit the city one day. Known as the ‘Eternal City’ or ‘the City of Seven Hills’, this historical city is the capital of Italy and here, I am going to relate my wishes and knowledge regarding the city.
Rome is the third most visited city in Europe, after London and Paris and the fourteenth most popular city in the world. It is located in the central-western portion of the Peninsula of Italy along the shores of the river Tiber. The Vatican City is an autonomous city with the boundary of this city. This city has found its place in the works of great personalities like Ovid, Virgil and others. Besides its history, it houses many organizations like the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). It hosts many national and international banks and the presence of many sought-after fashion brands makes the city an important centre of industry, fashion and business.
Every year, Rome attracts a considerable number of tourists annually due to its unrivalled history spanning over 28 centuries, breathtaking archaeology, including the Colesseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, Piazza Della Repubblica, to name a few, and delectable cuisines. When in Rome, everyone needs to taste the pizza, ravioli or lasagne, or it is a total gastronomical loss. Apart from that, you get delicacies like Carpaccio, Risotto, Tiramisu, Grappa, etc. Piazza Fontanella Borghese Market, Via Sannio Market and Porta Portese Market are the best places where various items from books and clothes to antiques and food are sold.
Therefore, if you are a globetrotter, being in Rome will give you an experience of a lifetime.
