Man has caused enormous damage to nature. With cities getting overcrowded day-by-day, people are considering building homes in the countryside. In my opinion, this move is not favourable. The government should plan to accommodate new homes within the city limits and stop venturing into the countryside. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I shall explain the importance of preserving the countryside.
Sloughs in the countryside need to be protected for various reasons. Sloughs are wetlands formed when freshwaters from rivers and saltwater from the seas meet in a particular place. Sloughs are capable of water retention. Also, they are capable of using this stored water in times of drought. Because of this unique capacity, they support many ecosystems and attract a lot of birds. Recent studies of sloughs have revealed that these areas can meet the water needs of an entire city. The studies have also emphasised that sloughs should be declared as places of importance. Since sloughs are wetlands, they are not suitable for construction.
They contribute to the economy, as well. By facilitating agriculture, they are important suppliers of food. Besides, they are also important places of tourist attraction. If maintained well, they can help a nation to achieve self-sustenance. By destroying the countryside, we are losing out on water resources, food and depriving ourselves of the innumerous benefits that nature is ready to provide.
Although it is essential to accommodate everyone, the protection of the countryside takes priority over it.
In conclusion, the countryside is home to irreplaceable biodiversity. By exploiting them for construction, we are endangering many species and degrading the environment. Furthermore, by building new homes on potentially unfit lands, we are risking our lives as well.

The scarcity of land is escalating at an alarming rate as the demand for construction space is skyrocketing day by day. The task of sheltering the unsheltered is becoming laborious for the government as urban areas are already congested with buildings. Since rural areas are abundant in land resources, utilization of these areas for construction is often suggested by many, whereas others feel that this solution is not worthwhile. In my opinion, rural land must not be exploited for construction purposes. In the following paragraphs, I will explore the topic in detail and justify my views on the same.
First of all, it is necessary to recognize the significance of the countryside to understand why it should be shielded from urbanization. Since agriculture is primarily practised in rural areas, agricultural plots have to be converted into building sites. Thus, the use of these spaces will not only lead to a deficiency in food production but will also harm the crops in and around the potential construction areas. At the same time, contaminating the soil with chemicals and substances needed for construction will spoil the ability to farm crops in the entire vicinity.
Furthermore, rural areas are rich in the traditions and culture of the residing communities. These regions and their residents are known for their distinctive lifestyle and they serve as a relic of a simpler time before the modern era. This unsophisticated manner of living prevalent in the country has aided the natives to avoid issues like pollution and crime to a great extent. Thus, the essence of these localities and their conventions must not be altered by modernisation.
Nonetheless, the shortage of living space has to be tackled by the authorities as it leads to the rise in the number of homeless people and slums areas. However, an alternative solution must be discovered as making use of rural space is not feasible in the long run.
Finally, I would like to mention that the diminishing land resources have led to a surge in the cost of living worldwide. Thus, if a remedy is not devised shortly, urban establishments in the country will become mandatory leading to further complications.
