Drug consumption has provoked arguments that make people think about the relevance of narcotics in modern society. Bands of movements have argued to legalize drugs, while many still feel consumption needs to be penalised. This essay will delve deeper into this topic and analyse how people initiate their contact with drugs and how one can prevent oneself from doing so.

To begin with, the widespread use of authorised, as well as unauthorised drug use, is due to an individual’s life and environment. Many people “try” a substance for experience, soon falling into an addictive urge. Some people imbibe drug usage, according to sociologists, as their role models like their parents and society members set a wrong precedent by using drugs themselves. Drug use has pervasive and harmful effects on users, as most of them directly affect cognition, organs, senses & appetite, impair decision-making and indulge in unlawful habits that endanger themselves as well as others. It has been widely documented that using drugs like cocaine, LSD, methamphetamine, heroin and so on can not only lead to addiction but, in dire cases, even death.

Young people are inquisitive, and often their thirst for the unknown is only quenched once they experience it. So, awareness must be instilled from a young age regarding drug use and its impending consequences. Films and art often glamourise drug use, so movies need to have a discretion advisory that warns people not to follow what’s shown. Necessary steps need to be taken by the parents as well, like readying the child against drug use. But, the most significant contribution in this fight stands with the youth, who need to learn to say no to such advances. One must realise the power and importance of the word “no” in this menacing situation, and it only comes with exemplary willpower. Hence, the youth needs to reflect consciously that drugs are bad for health, and there is no argument otherwise.

In conclusion, drug consumption has no two answers to it – it only leads to the destruction of the body, the family and the person. Unfortunately, many people are actively falling into this trap. There needs to be a firm commitment from the youth to fight this, and positive steps will undoubtedly prevail.
