Is the PTE Speaking difficult?

The performance of a candidate in the PTE Speaking section depends on their level of speaking ability. Individuals, especially non-native speakers of English, have stated that this section can be quite tricky. However, practicing diligently and working on your weak areas can significantly improve your performance in this section.

Does content matter in PTE speaking?

It is essential to understand that the PTE assesses an individual’s English language abilities. The questions included in this exam are not intended to test intelligence or knowledge on specific topics. Thus, the content of the answers is significant for tasks like describing an image and, otherwise, does not affect the overall score as long they meet all other requirements like grammatical accuracy.

What are the types of questions included in PTE Speaking?

The Speaking and the Writing segment of the PTE exam are combined into a single section. The Speaking portion of the PTE Academic test consists of 5 different question types, like Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture and Answer Short Question.

Is the Personal Introduction scored?

The Speaking and Writing section is the first segment of the PTE Academic test. However, the test begins with a Personal Introduction task, where candidates have an opportunity to give their selected colleges and universities some information about themselves. This item type is not scored but is sent to the candidate’s selected institutions along with their score report.

Does my accent affect my score during PTE Speaking?

The PTE Academic test evaluates an individual’s English proficiency against the Global Standards of English. Thus, the accent of a candidate does not affect their score in any way. However, a candidate must speak clearly and fluently in order to score well in the Speaking section of the PTE test.
