The PTE is the most dependable, accurate and fast English language proficiency test available. It consists of 4 modules – reading, writing, listening and speaking. In this article, we will take an in-depth look at the PTE Speaking Module. We will cover the following questions:
- What are the PTE Speaking Module test types?
- How is the PTE Speaking Module Scored?
The PTE Speaking Module consists of 5 different question types, which are as follows:
READ ALOUD: This is a type of integrated skills item that evaluates both your speaking and reading abilities in an academic or professional setting.
To attempt this question, you have to read a written short passage out loud for this type of assessment. There is a countdown till the microphone opens in the recording status box. The amount of time you have to get ready depends on how long the question text is. Once the passage is finished, you will hear a brief tone – “Now you can begin speaking”. Refrain from speaking before the microphone opens because the audio won’t be captured until after the beep. Remember that you should use straightforward language. There’s no reason to hurry.
REPEAT SENTENCE: This is a short-answer speaking question type. It assesses your capacity to comprehend, retain, and then accurately repeat a sentence with proper pronunciation. You must recite the sentence you hear. The question recording will start playing on its own. The microphone opens and the recording status box displays “Recording” as soon as the audio is finished. There is no brief tone, so speak into the microphone right away and repeat what you heard. Keep in mind that the Question audio cannot be played back. Only one recording of your reply is permitted.
DESCRIBE IMAGE: You’ll see an image that has to be described. Before speaking aloud, organise all of your points that need to be made because doing so will increase your score. An organised response has a better chance of covering the key elements and supporting information; it will also draw from the given information and highlight any significant details. Each question image will be different. The type of the image will be specified in the command. The image could be a graph, picture, map, chart, or table.
There is a countdown till the microphone opens in the recording status box. You have 25 seconds to consider the picture and formulate an answer. After a brief tone, you can begin speaking.
RE-TELL LECTURE: This is a lengthy response speaking item question that evaluates both speaking and listening abilities. It checks your ability to communicate knowledge from a lecture on information from a lecture on an academic. The lecture may include a visual. On the included erasable noteboard, you can make notes while the audio is playing. There is a countdown till the microphone opens in the recording status box. You pick up a brief tone, following which you may begin speaking. Only one recording of your reply is permitted.
ANSWER SHORT QUESTION: This is a speaking item type question type that requires a single correct answer. Your capacity to comprehend a question from the audio and give a succinct, accurate response is tested, along with both your speaking and listening skills. An image may be included with the question. You receive a score for your response, either correct or incorrect. There is no partial credit for this question type. You must respond to the question in one or two sentences.
The question recording will start playing on its own. It might be accompanied by an image. The microphone opens and the recording status box will show the sign “Recording” as soon as the audio is finished. Answer the question briefly, in one or two sentences. Start speaking into the microphone right away, as there is no short tone. The question audio cannot be played back and only one copy of your response may be recorded.
Remember: For each question type, you must record and submit your answer before the progress bar reaches zero. Do so by finishing your recording of the complete answer – after successfully completing the question, the “Recording” toggle will be replaced with “Completed.”
The PTE Speaking Module is scored along the following verticals:
It would be best if you answered verbally to speaking question types with a clear, fluent mode of speech that most native speakers of the language may easily comprehend. You must also use the right intonation, stress, and pronunciation. PTE Academic acknowledges regional and national variations in English pronunciation to the extent that they are perceptible to the majority of native English speakers. Different speaking item categories are not timed separately.
The five areas stated below must be paid attention to in order to talk effectively in both informal and formal settings:
- Organization and structure of spoken content
- If the needs of the listener are properly addressed
- Cohesion and fluidity of grammar and vocabulary
- Control over Language
- Proper intonation and stress patterns
Thus the PTE Speaking section covers one of the most vital aspects of English language proficiency. By mastering this type of language skill, you can demonstrate your ability to converse perfectly in English as a second language. As such, this is an essential skill to develop for both students and working professionals.
