Sample Essay
Sports competitions have become an indispensable part of any society in the last five decades. However, some people opine that many resources are invested and splurged in these events. The following essay disagrees with the given statement that governments spend too much money, preparation time and energy for international tournaments; instead, the host country receives benefits, such as more visitors and international recognition during the games.
The chief reason for having international events is boosting economic growth. Although the remuneration of organising an international event is significantly high, revenue generally comes from ticket sales. Advertising is always more than that of hosting events. It clearly shows that income from arranging such events brings positive development towards its economic growth.
Another point to contemplate is the nation’s infrastructure development in the long run. For example, if any international events are scheduled, the state governments often try to improve the conveyance system to attract more foreigners. This would result in much positive development in transport. Not only will this bring comfort for a resident in the long term, but also it will lessen the cost of any future international events.
On the other hand, such mega-events adversely affect the daily life of the citizens. The government spends a considerable amount of money building temporary infrastructure to provide basic amenities and security to visitors. Moreover, the government further recovers this amount from the country’s residents through direct and indirect taxes. If the event does not happen smoothly by any chance, it brings blemishes to the prestige of the host country.
To conclude, a host city or nation has a lot to gain from these events, but only if they are economically administered correctly and the country has no controversial issues for the media to pull out of the closet.
