Once Saint Augustine had said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” Following these words, people in profusion have developed a passion for travelling. This, in turn, has brought a sea change in the tourism industry that had a commendable effect on society as well as every individual who participated in the activity. In this essay, these fruitful impacts will be discussed.
From the social point of view, the tourism industry has stimulated the economy and patronized the exchange of culture and ideas. When people travel, they make use of different services like transport, food, and lodging and buying memorabilia for which they have to pay in national or international currency. The national currency leads to the development of trade and commerce, while its international counterparts lead to an increase in the flow of foreign exchange. The sale of goods and services further leads to the creation of employment opportunities. Many people are engaged in hotels and restaurants, offer travel services, work as guides around local places and own shops as well as hire workers for selling crafts and basic essentials. Apart from the economic benefits, tourism also facilitates the reciprocation of conventions between the native and the visiting people. They learn the languages, come to know about the food and festivals and enjoy the songs and artistic crafts.
When people travel, they open their minds to new ideas. As they travel across the country or the globe, they face different kinds of situations and interact with various people. They enrich themselves with these experiences. Secondly, tourists make trips after labouring hard in their daily lives to invigorate themselves. This refreshes them to take up work again. People who work in the tourism industry earn their livelihood from various business activities. They interact with different nationalities of people, which helps them gain confidence and develop their communication skills.
Thus, the growing tourism industry has been beneficial on a social scale as well as for each and every person living in that social circle. This will help the nation a large to develop its infrastructure and bring about development.
