Sample Answer 1
Here is the sample for the IELTS Cue Card “Describe some local news that people in your locality are interested in”
- how you know about this news
Since I cannot stay glued to the TV for hours altogether, I spend a minimum of 10 minutes each day reading the local newspaper to stay updated with current affairs around the world.
- what the news is
Here, I would like to mention one such local news that I stumbled upon last week when navigating through the newspaper. It was regarding the destruction of our area’s park. In point of fact, there is only one park in our locality, which is not maintained exceptionally well. Rather than making it a leisure place, people are treating it more like a dumpster. Owing to this, you can see stray animals wandering around all the time. Thus, the park doesn’t beautify our area but acts as a scar on its face.
- who is involved in this news
Fortunately, the local administration has eyed this place and has decided to destroy the entire park to reconstruct it with state-of-the-art technology. The intention behind it is to make the locality look greener and cleaner. In addition to this, the seating arrangement will also allow community members to socialise well.
- and explain why it is interesting to people
Overall, the newly constructed park will be much safer than the existing one. In fact, according to the article in the newspaper, the authorities are also planning to install rides and swings to allure children.
Apparently, the construction ought to start in a couple of months. Listening to this news indeed sent relief to every house in the locality. And all of the members are pretty excited as well.

I came across this intriguing article in a newspaper I read at my school’s library.

It involved how positive attitudes have greatly affected people’s success, based on the story of how a local woman had never given up her dream and had now become a world-famous novelist.
- who is involved in this news
- According to the news story, optimistic people are more likely to be successful. Since they look at the bright side, their lives are always full of enjoyment. Therefore, when running into problems, optimists try their best to work out solutions. This leads them to great achievements. In contrast, pessimistic people tend to act negatively, which not only puts them under a lot of strain but also has a bad impact on their performance and the people around them.
- and explain why it is interesting to people
Since I read this news, I have tried to maintain a positive attitude about everything. Whenever I fail to do something, I will not blame myself but work harder to overcome such failure. I hope that, like this woman, everybody can learn to be optimistic about whatever situation they face.
