Sample Answer 1
Activities are a wonderful way to engage with new people, learn new things and have an enjoyable time. Some events are organised for a specific purpose, and others are meant for people of the same or different communities to come together and engage themselves in a particular activity. Recently, I took part in an initiative with many others to clean the area around our housing complex of any harmful plastic waste.
I have always been interested in volunteering and working for NGOs throughout my school and college life. I have participated in multiple events organised by our college for the upliftment of the underprivileged. When I got the news that the welfare society of our housing complex would be carrying out an initiative to clean the surrounding areas in order to provide a better environment for the people who lived nearby, I wholeheartedly agreed to join this initiative.
The activity was organised in a manner that was safe for the people participating and, at the same time, led to the reduction of disposed plastic waste. Since our housing complex is on the outskirts of the city in a semi-rural area, the local residents are unaware of the hazardous nature of plastic waste and how harmful it is when not disposed of properly. The first step was the clear the vegetation around the borders of our housing complex or all types of plastic materials without harming the plant life. Eventually, with the help of all the participants, we were able to clear a substantial portion of the surrounding area successfully. Later, the organisers held a short awareness program to spread awareness about the use of plastic and encouraged us to use biodegradable products like jute and cloth bags.
After participating in this activity, I felt proud and even treated myself to a hearty dinner. I have always felt a certain sense of satisfaction and joy after participating in activities that benefit others.
Sample Answer 2
I recently participated in a climate change protest organised by a student-led organisation in Bangalore. It was to raise awareness about the increasing effects of climate change and what we as responsible citizens must do to combat these changes and prevent them in the first place. I took part in this protest because I thought that this was a topic very close to my heart. I understand the implications of climate change on our planet and the impending doom if we fail to do so in time. It is in our hands, now more than ever, to make a change, to demand change from our leaders, our representatives because we need to ensure we do not destroy our home. Every day we see pictures on social media of animals going extinct, news about record-breaking heat waves – how much more must we listen to before making changes? This is why I felt like participating in this protest and furthering the reach of this message was very important to me. A student-led organisation in Bangalore organised it by announcing it on social media platforms. They reached out over email, Instagram, Facebook and even LinkedIN. It was organised at Lalbagh botanical gardens in Bangalore, and we marched around the garden and streamed it on all platforms. It even caught the attention of some news outlets, and we received media coverage as well. I felt proud of myself for taking a step in the right direction and being a part of such a vital movement.
