The Continued Rise in the World’s Population is the Greatest Problem Faced by Humanity at the Present - Band 9 Sample Answer
With enormous technical advancements in health that have significantly improved people’s lifespans, the continued growth of the world’s population has become a major source of concern for nearly all governments. Its rising detrimental influence on humanity, on the other hand, cannot be ignored or dismissed. In the following paragraphs, I shall discuss overpopulation and its impact on humanity.
There are already 8 billion people in the world, and this number is expected to increase rapidly. Although numerous issues such as global warming and pollution are important environmental concerns, overpopulation is another serious issue. Over the last few decades, the human population has increased at an exponential rate. It is because we have learned how to produce large quantities of food and learned various measures to control diseases. As a result, food production and distribution to lower-income groups have grown in recent years, while fatalities from hunger have declined.
Overpopulation is, in fact, the greatest problem faced by humanity. It imposes a great demand on resources and land, leading to widespread environmental concerns as well as impacting global economies and standards of living. It is going to put a greater demand on the world’s water supplies and medical care, food and jobs, all resulting in governmental and environmental collapse. Besides that, as the world’s population rises, so will the world’s reliance on resources, culminating in the depletion of natural resources and causing extinction. Due to human activities such as industrialisation and urbanisation, the global temperature is changing. Human activities impact air and water quality, water availability, waste disposal issues, and the usage of high-energy appliances, contribute to greenhouse gas emissions daily. Chopping trees down to build residential plots has resulted in a rise in environmental disturbance, such as frequent earthquakes, landslides, and harsh weather.
Overall, technological advancements have caused a population explosion, resulting in a slew of issues. More people imply more demand for food, water, housing, energy, healthcare, and various other goods and services.
