Today, the world is facing an imminent threat that is so daunting that if authorities do not take immediate action across the world, humanity is bound to face a perilous future. The natural habit of Earth is already in ruins and statistical data tells us that soon the structure of the planet will also change for the worse. Despite such alarming figures and scientific predictions, humanity has turned a blind eye towards the pitfalls of our way of life. I believe that governments across the world have shown a complacent attitude towards these threats, especially climate change. In the following paragraphs, I will elaborate on the topic and justify my views on the same.

Climate change, as we all know, has been a risk since quite a long time ago. With the number of greenhouse gases emitted, toxic waste disposed of into water bodies and the destruction of wildlife, the world is already experiencing a much harsher environment than before. But this threat was only given the deserving recognition after a considerable amount of damage was already done to the environment.

There is still much negligence towards this hazard that has started to befall us already. Governments of various nations, including global superpowers, have turned their backs on this issue. One of the reasons for this is the prevalence of outrageous consumerism that is inherent in present-day society. Since capitalism is so deep-rooted in the global economy, multinational corporations and governments alike prioritize wealth over the protection of our natural habitat. Phenomena like pollution, overuse of fossil fuels and ruination of flora and fauna are byproducts of a capitalistic form of economy. Still, corrective measures are yet to be taken to ameliorate such predicaments.

In conclusion, consumerism and its unfavourable outcomes have indeed devastated the environment. Even though some of the damage is quite irreversible, we must take steps towards a better future.

Nowadays, climate change has been the most dangerous threat worldwide. However, many people have not done enough to stop the harmful side effects of consumerism and pollution. I am in complete agreement with this opinion because the environment is thought about after the economy as the current regulations do not lead to the desired changes in people's behavior.

To start with, the states have a tendency to ease the consumerism regulations because it will lead to a recession due to the restrictions being imposed. Many industries where luxury goods are sold, fast fashions are produced, and single-use products are made put up resistance against such measures. Therefore, the rapid and instant economic growth is being favoured due to which pollution from consumption surge. For example, recent reports in many developing countries mention that there is a higher air quality index due to human activities which the government and the natives fail to control.

Although many governments implement laws, they are not being followed sincerely due to which these lead to weak or under-enforcement policies. Factories that are responsible for most pollution pay only a very little fine depending on the expense of the non-compliance and thus continue to operate as usual. For instance, greenhouse gases, non-biodegradable waste, and industrial toxins continue to grow, making the climate crises such as global warming, the melting of polar ice, and violent storms even worse.

To conclude, climate change might have been accepted as the most profound problem. However, governmental measures to curb excessive consumerism and pollution are insufficient. Due to this, the environmental crisis can only be effectively managed if the governments shift their interest from economic convenience to environmental protection.
