In the present era, the percentage of illicit activity is rising in cities rather than rural areas. Although the crime rate in urban regions is greater than in rural areas for various reasons, some realistic strategies can be considered to solve this issue.

Poverty and addiction are two main reasons for crime in metropolitan settings. It has long been claimed that crime is an inevitable byproduct of poverty. In reality, unemployment is the leading source of infringement since young people are migrating to cities in search of work. Thus, in order to make ends meet in the very competitive metropolitan marketplaces, many people will go to any length, including committing crimes, to earn a livelihood. Additionally, major cities are frequently teeming with people hooked on alcohol or drugs. When these people are on their way to chasing high sensations, the risk of committing crimes like robbery or even murder is very high, and almost nothing can stop them.

However, governments can significantly reduce crime in metropolitan areas by implementing cutting-edge technologies and creating DNA databases. Deterrent methods are beneficial in reducing urban thefts. Similarly, DNA databases assist governments in combating criminals in urban areas. Moreover, unity in all religions can be a beneficial factor in lowering the offence ratio. Thus, the government should conduct surveys in various sections of cities to measure relationships to develop friendship zones and coordination. Stricter punishments can also serve as a deterrence to those motivated to commit crimes.

To conclude, although several factors contribute to a greater crime rate in urban regions than in rural ones, governments must invest more in security measures such as surveillance cameras and more robust policeman squads to reduce crime levels in urban areas.
