Describe Something You Did for the First Time and Enjoyed - Sample Answer 1
- What it was?
- When it was?
I had finished college and got recruited into a company along with my friends. We worked very hard. Suddenly, one of our friends suggested that we take a vacation. All of us agreed to it. We travelled to Coorg for Christmas. We visited many places, but we wanted some adventure. So we decided to go to an elephant camp. We booked for a ride and waited for our turn. Mostly people were in groups. So I was thinking we would go as a group. Suddenly it started to rain. They suspended the ride for some time and asked us to be there after an hour. So we went to a nearby tea stall and had a lovely tea. Then we roamed around. Soon we got split. I was left alone. I did not know where to go. So I decided to go back to the elephant camp and wait for the others to come. I had the tickets with me. By then, the rain had stopped, and it was late evening. A person from the counter approached me and asked me to call my group. I tried to reach them, but none of them picked up. He was in a hurry to close. I was worried that the payment would go waste.

I thought for a moment and told him that I would ride on the elephant without my group. He gladly agreed. I was feeling nervous. In fact, I never had pets at home. So I had no prior experience in dealing with animals. I took the stairs and placed my leg on the elephant. It started to shake its huge body. I stepped back. But the mahout was very kind. He grabbed my hand and encouraged me to step on it. Finally, I placed both my legs on it and tried to sit down. The ride started with a jolt. It was only the two of us: Me and the mahout. As I was riding on it, I could feel that the elephant was shaking its body. But midway through, I lost my fears and became happy. I reminded myself of kings riding on elephants. Slowly, I felt like a king myself.
Upon finishing the ride successfully, and after stepping out of the elephant, I could see all my friends. They were shouting and waving to me. I pounced on them for leaving me alone. But I still recall this incident fondly and take pride in myself for having been on an elephant without my friends.

- What it was?
- When it was?
Although I like adventure sports and activities, I did not get an opportunity to try them out until recently. Last year, my parents and I went to Himachal Pradesh and for the first time, I tried para-gliding. It was an amazing experience and is etched in my memory.
- What you did?
As we were in Manali, our driver informed us about various activities that take place in the Solang Valley. As soon as I heard it, I requested my father to visit the valley. He accepted and within an hour, we reached our destination. Since my father was not interested in these activities, my mother and I decided to participate. We bought the ticket and waited for our turn. Meanwhile, we were geared up and given certain instructions. As we were not experienced, we booked tandem flights. A trained pilot tagged along with us in his glider and we were able to enjoy the thrill of flying without any hassles.
- And explain why it was something you enjoyed so much?
When we left the ground and soared into the sky, my heart began to flutter. I have never felt so happy and free in my life. Below us lay the lush green land and in front of us stood the mighty mountains, and it felt like Mother nature had endowed us with the best of the resources which we needed to respect and guard properly. People say good times come to an end soon. So, our time was up and we had to come back to the ending point. It was an experience of a lifetime, and I was glad I could share it with my mother.

Describe Something You Did for the First Time and Enjoyed - Sample Answer 3
- What it was?
- When it was?
One of the most enjoyable things I did for the first time was going scuba diving during a vacation in Goa about two years ago. I had always been fascinated by the ocean and the mysteries hidden beneath its surface, but I never had the courage to actually try diving. To be honest, I was quite nervous at the beginning, because breathing underwater sounded intimidating. However, during that trip, I finally decided to take the plunge and try something completely new.
- What you did?
I signed up for a beginner scuba diving session with a professional instructor who first gave us a short training session. He explained how to use the equipment and how to remain calm while underwater. Initially, I felt a bit anxious and my heart was pounding, but I reminded myself that this was an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. Soon after, we boarded a small boat and headed toward the diving site.
As I slowly descended into the water, the view beneath the surface was absolutely breathtaking. It felt like entering a completely different world. I could see colourful fish swimming gracefully around me, beautiful coral reefs, and other fascinating forms of marine life. The water was crystal clear, and everything looked incredibly vibrant and peaceful. At that moment, I realized that all my fears had simply melted away.
- And explain why it was something you enjoyed so much?
What made the experience truly memorable was the overwhelming sense of adventure and discovery. Being able to breathe underwater felt surreal, almost like I had stepped into a nature documentary. The calmness of the underwater environment allowed me to soak in the moment and appreciate the beauty of the ocean. It was also incredibly satisfying because I managed to overcome my nervousness and try something I had always been curious about.
