The evolution of technology has made life easier to the point that we can go to our destinations without difficulty using either personal vehicles or public transportation. Due to a spike in the number of personal cars owned, traffic is becoming more congested and exerting a negative impact on the environment through noise and air pollution. As a result, to curb this issue, many individuals suggest that the price of fuels should be soared. However, I disagree with this idea, as it may bring forth devastating consequences for the economy. In the following paragraphs, I shall elaborate on my viewpoint and provide suggestions for alternative measures.
Nowadays, individuals prefer to drive their vehicles since they are more convenient and comfortable. If gas prices rise, fewer individuals could use their own vehicles to travel, making public transportation more affordable and convenient. Naturally, this strategy may restrict the use of cars for long-distance travel, but it is ineffective in reducing the use of cars in cities and for short-distance travel, and as a result, the problem will not be resolved. Additionally, raising the price of fossil fuels is a silly assumption since it would spark societal unrest. For instance, financial households will be impacted by rising gas prices. Also, if gas prices rise, shipping goods will go up. Since automobiles commonly transport materials, they utilize the most fossil fuel. For example, rising gas prices force consumers to pay more for food like meat and vegetables.
Therefore, the government should promote public transportation like buses, electric automobiles, and bicycles among citizens rather than elevating the price of petroleum. Also, adaptive signal technology can adjust the amount of time for a green light in a particular signal based on real-time traffic updates. This technology has found a large amount of success in Japan, reducing traffic congestion by almost 35%.
In conclusion, increasing gas prices have various drawbacks, including affecting finances and proliferating product costs. As an alternative measure, the government should promote the use of environmentally-friendly forms of transport.
