Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main things I will need to have for booking the OET for a given date?

To register yourself for any given date of the OET, you first need to keep a tab on the registration window for the mode of the OET you are looking forward to appearing in. Now, once you decide to appear for the OET for a given date and have the information about when the registration starts, you should ensure you have a digital passport photo, credit card or payment details and an identification document. It would be best if you necessarily had all of these. However, you may choose any option out of many for an identification document.

What are the options for me to choose from for an identification document?

The OET has several options for you to choose from while giving proof for an identification document. The OET accepts your passport displaying your full name, date of birth, photograph, and expiry date. A National Government Issued ID, that is, any form of identification issued by the national government in the country you plan to give the OET, is accepted (excluding driver's licence). Additionally, a European Union (EU) Card is regarded as a National Government ID and can be used for booking and sitting the test.

Do I need to bring the identification proof on the test day as well?

Yes, you need to bring the identification proof on the test day as well and failing to do so, you will not be allowed to appear for the test. Although it doesn't include the OET at home, you still need to have the identification document as the OET at home has a different verification method. Also, you need to ensure that you bring the same identification document on the test day you would use for the OET booking.

What if I am a refugee and do not have a valid identification document as mentioned above?

This case is not unfounded and there are cases where you may be a refugee and, therefore, wouldn't have a valid identification document used to verify your identity. In that case, you may use the official immigration documents that recognise your status and contain your full name, date of birth (DoB), and photographs. If your immigration identification does not have a photograph, full name, DoB, or is pending approval, you can use this together with an authorisation letter. The authorisation request must be submitted no later than two days after booking. You must bring the authorisation letter and the identification used on test day.

Is there anything I need to keep in mind for my passport photo?

Yes, you must follow specific criteria while uploading your passport photo. It should be in .jpg or .png format between 200KB and 2MB in size and should be a coloured photograph with white background not older than three months. It should be your face only with a sharp focus, with you looking directly at the camera with a neutral expression and no red-eye. Head coverings (if worn) should be plain coloured and must be worn in such a way as to show the face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and with the edges of the face visible.
