Frequently Asked Questions

Does the OET occur just once in a year?

No, the OET is conducted multiple times every year for 12 different medical professionals, including Dentistry, Dietetics, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography, Speech Pathology and Veterinary Science across various countries such as Australia, Canada, Ireland, Maldives, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.

Which date should I book for the OET?

It is a subjective choice and depends entirely upon your preference. The OET occurs multiple times in a year and the dates and venue (for OET on paper and computer) are predetermined by the OET administration. That said, you may choose any date that you feel would be most appropriate for you to give your OET. However, you must always choose a date when you believe you are well prepared for the test.

Can I change the venue for the OET on paper other than the ones mentioned in the list?

The OET administration predetermines the venue for the OET on paper, as is the case with the OET dates. These venues are testing partners for the OET, and hence you have to choose one among them. However, if you want to change the venue of the test and choose a different venue mentioned in the list of OET testing partners, you may do that provided it is done before the OET registration date ends with the fee of $120. Always plan well in advance as to which venue suits you the most, depending upon your convenience, in order to evade unnecessary trouble.

Are the dates of registration for’ OET at home’ and ‘OET on the computer at a test venue’ the same as ‘OET on paper’ ?

No, OET on the modes other than the OET on paper, i.e., on the computer at a test venue and OET at home, have different registration dates. They do not follow the similar opening and closing window for submitting your application. The registration window for OET on the computer at a test venue closes 10 days before the actual date of the OET you are registering for. For the OET at home, the registration window closes 7 days before the actual date of the OET you are registering for.

Do I need to take all the subtests of the OET together?

The OET on paper requires you to appear for all the subtests together, i.e. Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. However, for the OET at home and OET on a computer at a test venue, the listening, reading and writing subtests must be attempted on the same day, but the OET Speaking can be given five days prior to or after the LRW test date. You need to ensure that you appear for all the subtests; otherwise, it won’t be considered a valid attempt (if only you are not appearing for just a particular subtest of the OET after completing an initial OET including all the tasks.)
