Sample Answer for IELTS Writing Task 2 Discussing Essay Topic ‘Some People Believe that Children should Attend Extra Classes after School’
Extra classes after school are perhaps sworn enemies of children, as they delay going home, getting food, and that extremely satisfying post-school nap. However, some people opine that extra classes aid the learning process. I disagree with this, and the essay will explain why.
Talking about the Indian school setup, the average school hours are somewhere between seven to nine hours. Children are reared in this timeframe right from nursery to higher secondary, and there are few exceptions to this. Moreover, schools in India teach between five to seven subjects per day, which is an added bother rather than a boon for students. All in all, the school-goers are pretty swamped up by this lifestyle that is happening day in and day out. Now, if a child has been asked to stay back after school hours for extra classes, it is evident that the child will have very little to zero motivation to learn in the majority of the cases. Instead, he would ponder over the time he has to kill to reach home and pay attention to the clock instead of the blackboard. As a result, there is no doubt that learning would be happening at all.
Conversely, people argue from the perspective of extra classes with an understanding that the longer you learn, the better you learn. Drawing a parallel to the articulation earlier, studies have found that “long” hours don’t always translate to the best results in studying. Lately, schools and institutions have come to realize this revelation. Hence, schools are coming up with novel solutions or a way of teaching the students. Moreover, extra classes are used up by teachers to hold doubt-solving sessions, interactive assignments, and tasks that engage a child.
To conclude, extra classes don't always translate into better learning. Hence, schools should not hold them often.

Band 9 Sample Answer for IELTS Writing Task 2 Discussing Essay Topic ‘Some People Believe that Children should Attend Extra Classes after School’
In the contemporary world, some people believe that students need to take additional classes after school; however, many people disagree with this statement. I agree that additional classes to some extent as it has some positives but many of the counterarguments cannot be overlooked.
On the other hand, this would help kids to prepare for competitive exams who are pursuing a career that needs to be trained much earlier in their childhood. This would help them to successfully pass the demanding exams with a more focused study plan. For instance, students, who aspire to sit for the Civil Services exams in India, would have to put in a lot of extra effort in their schooling and college years to have a good place in the administration sector.
On the contrary, the drawbacks of studying cannot be overlooked. In other words, if a student spends all of his time studying, he may miss out on important activities like sports. Thus, he starts leading a more sedentary lifestyle which can result in getting prone to many diseases such as obesity, anxiety, and mental stress. For example, students in big metropolitan cities like Delhi go through such mental problems, including stress and anxiety due to which they lead an unhappy life.
In conclusion, I do not think that the child needs any extra insight or obviously along with academics to defend the hard challenges that life flings at him. But equally, he needs to be out doing sports and other outdoor activities apart from carrying those burdens-beyond any decent limit.
