Sample Essay
Games are a critical way of developing and inculcating character, discipline, and personalities in kids as well as adults. Some people think that traditional games are better than modern games in helping children develop their abilities, and I acquiesce to this view. This essay will further discuss the said perspective.
I am of the opinion that traditional games resonate with the innocence of childhood. Allow me to paint you a picture – it is a sunny day during the summer break, and a bunch of kids has gathered to play games like hide and seek, catch, or just run amok on their own. They also play games like snakes and ladder, monopoly, carrom, etc. All of these are, in my regard, classic examples of traditional games that are fun and yet simple to play.
Traditional games develop both the brain and the physique as it yields both. For example, when playing Monopoly or Business, the player should think one step ahead of the rest to retire with most properties or money. Similarly, playing catch, Hide and Seek results in a lot of running, thus developing the physique, making the kids stronger, quicker, and more agile. Also, during summers, many people resort to taking a dip in the swimming pool and playing different sorts of water games. These traditional games do not resort to violence like modern games and create solid relationships among the players.
On the flip side, modern games are largely played on consoles and devices, thus ruling getting serious injuries out of the equation. Studies have shown that playing certain games on PCs and consoles polishes many mental characteristics like decision-making, patience, and time management. Still, one cannot directly apply these findings to a bigger scale because they mostly deal with imaginary cases. Apart from the character-building aspect of conventional games, another aspect relevant in kids born around 2000 or earlier is that the memories of these games bring certain nostalgia, thereby developing emotional aspects.
Hence, traditional games indeed are better than modern games in helping children develop their abilities to a holistic extent.
