Band 8 Sample Essay
It is undeniable that the world is increasingly demanding a vast amount of energy resources such as oil and natural gas in today’s era. Consequently, the drilling for these resources has become a significant source of income for people around the world. At the same time, this phenomenon has caused increased pressure on the global environment. Therefore, I firmly believe that the disadvantages of this phenomenon outweigh the advantages.
It is irrefutable that the extraction of natural resources like oil and gas hosts several benefits, such as the industrial revolution, which will also help citizens get employment opportunities. Among fossil fuels, oil has a high energy density and is easily available to produce various forms of energy. Moreover, the drilling of oil from the underground creates more gasoline supplies. As a result, it also reduces fuel prices. Overall, these natural resources contribute to the economic growth and sustainable development of the country.
However, the primary disadvantage of extracting these resources is that they will cause significant environmental damage. In addition, there are detrimental adverse effects on nature, such as global warming and climate change, due to the extraction of natural resources. The excessive use of fossil fuels, and oil and gas extraction leads to a surge in global temperatures affecting green areas. Therefore, exploitation of the green regions and drilling of natural resources will threaten humankind as more and more diseases will spread quickly, affecting human health. Subsequently, the ecosystem will be disturbed due to human intervention.
To reiterate, although the extraction of natural resources has certain benefits, it also has a wide range of drawbacks to the ecosystem, which outweighs the benefits. Thus, in my opinion, humans should stop exploring undiscovered lands to extract natural resources and search for alternative sources.

Band 9 Sample Essay
With the increase in technological advancements, the demand for natural fuels like coal, oil and natural gas has hiked significantly. As a result, scarcity has been created, and there is a need to scrutinize unscathed lands for supplementary sources. While this exploration process has certain benefits, there are several impediments that will be considered in the next part of the essay.
When one checks out the perks of inspecting the obscure areas for fuel sources, the first that comes to mind is the economic progress of the country, leading to a high living standard of its citizens. When the industry can avail of the vast amount of fuel, they can expand their productivity and steer the economy to greater heights. Furthermore, probing into the inaccessible areas will need greater manpower. It will result in employing more people, which will bridge the gap between the needful section and the opulent group of the population as they will be able to earn their livelihood. Apart from these two facets, this scouting will alleviate the price of the fuels as the demand will be met, and there will be no deficiency in the supply. This will sequentially curtail the cost of essential goods like food, clothes and construction.
On the other hand, the nuisance of this activity will be far more dangerous to the natural world. Dissecting the hinterlands will disturb the natural ecosystems as trees will be cut down, lands will be drilled out, and wild animals and birds will be forced to flee their homes or get quashed. It will lead to turmoil in the innate balance in nature. In addition, clearing lands, dumping landfill wastes in water bodies and continuous drilling with heavy machines will lead to pollution. Chronologically, the rise in pollutants in land, air and water will affect the health of every human being. There will be a surge in lung diseases, waterborne ailments and malnutrition due to scarcity of food caused by lack of fertile land. Other than the disruption of the biosphere, exploring the far-flung areas for resources will also lead to financial risks as ways of communication like roads or railways have to be set up, different researches need to be conducted for proper information and everyone has to be prepared for unknown perils like accidents, natural disasters, all of which is costly.
Finally, when all these leverage and liabilities are taken into account, it can be concluded that fighting against the odds and taking up the challenge against nature is a matter of foolery. So, it is advisable to consider alternative sources of energy like solar power, hydroelectric energy and others instead of muddling with our environment and bringing our doom
