With the world population racing towards 8 billion people, many countries face a stiff challenge to provide essential services to their citizens. While they scour for housing, water, electricity, and other basic amenities, the environment bears the brunt. This essay will explore the factors involved in this issue’s cause and how we can overcome them.
Environmental degradation has been around ever since the first industrial revolution, but the way it is being indiscriminately used nowadays dwarfs the olden time. Ten years down the line, the situation seems as grim as today, if not more. Deforestation takes place to obtain land and wood, which harms the local biodiversity, all the while making it susceptible to floods. More and more plastics enter into our environment, while greenhouse gas emissions are slated to increase further, aiding global warming. On top of that, the world is indeed running out of space to accommodate the people of the future as well.
There are solutions to it, albeit radical. But with people coming together, solving this problem becomes more manageable. For instance, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is being cleaned. Another example narrates the story of Tusli Gowda, an Indian who planted over thirty thousand plant saplings over several decades. This instance is particularly being witnessed everywhere in the world, with a couple of people rescuing flora and fauna of their land. I personally believe that governments should promote a two-child policy as well since the ecosystem is already stressed, and the addition of new citizens will only add to this dilemma.
To conclude, the population boom will expand faster in the future, so it is entirely up to us humans to assess and implement course correction if we want to preserve the environment. The time is now, and with every second of delay, we are running towards a place from which there’s no return. But, it is indeed doable.
Band 9 Sample Essay
The world is increasingly changing with technological improvements, making it a complicated environment for humans to survive. As a result, the world will be in jeopardy due to global warming, overpopulation, pollution, and depletion of resources. The majority of countries, including India, will experience some of the most serious issues, such as population growth and unemployment in the upcoming future. As a result, the following essay will analyze the existing problems and potential remedies.
To commence with, India is the second-most populous country globally, with a monstrous population of over 1.3 billion people. In the subsequent years, India’s population growth is expected to surpass China, making it the world’s most populated country. Lack of jobs, housing scarcity, corruption, and the spread of diseases will be some of the many problems occurring due to the soaring population, which is an alarming concern that must be addressed quickly. Apart from that, unemployment will be another challenge faced by the country, eventually leading to poverty. Large population, unequal access to higher educational opportunities, lack of formal vocational education, high school dropout rates, insufficient skill training capacity, and other factors will all contribute to unemployment in a country. Consequently, there will be a severe impact on people’s lives if these issues are not resolved in the near future.
Therefore, the government should take concrete steps and introduce novel measures to overcome the population problem. The government can provide health, educational or even financial incentives as they have proved to be a highly effective population measure. The government could pass a bill limiting the number of children a couple can have. Even public awareness campaigns and programmes can help limit the growing population. As a result, if population growth is kept under control, the unemployment rate will also reduce. To address the issue of unemployment, the educational system needs to be reformed, and the government can implement new employment schemes in small-scale companies with basic policies that will offer job opportunities to the local youth of the country.
To summarise, an excessive population has numerous negative consequences, and India, as a populous country, will undoubtedly confront substantial unemployment and population challenges in the future decade. Therefore, improved population control measures, competent government initiatives, and employment schemes must be fairly implemented to overcome these difficulties.
