Understand the Listening Test Format

The Listening section requires you to listen to the audio or video clips that begin automatically. The volume can be increased by moving the bar to the right side. Adjust the volume to your level of comfort but remember that the audio clips are played only once. There are eight types of questions in the PTE Listening which has been listed below in the table :

Summarize Spoken Text	Candidates are given an audio clip in this question and are expected to write a summary in 50-70 words after listening to it. The information in question is presented in brief sections on topics such as libraries, languages, health, and medications, among others. You have 60–90 seconds to listen to the text and write a concise summary.
Multiple Choice, choose multiple answers	Candidates are provided a question and multiple alternatives on your screen in a multiple-choice, multiple response style question. Students are required to choose the correct one based on the audio recording. Students must choose all of the options they believe are correct for the recording. Candidates will have about 40 and 90 seconds to listen and respond.
Fill In the Blanks	In the ‘Fill In the Blanks’ question, candidates are given a transcript on your screen with several blanks to be filled. An audio clip will be played for the same transcript. You are required to type in the missing word as you hear the recording. The played audio clip should match the transcription written on the screen. The time allotted to complete this question is 30 to 60 seconds after the audio is played.
Highlight Correct Summary	After listening to the audio, choose the paragraph that most accurately explains the subject discussed in the audio. This task will take between 30 and 90 seconds to complete.
Multiple Choice, choose single answers	In multiple-choice, candidates are provided a question and several answers on your screen in a multiple-choice. They are expected to pick a single response based on the audio recording. You are provided 30–60 seconds to listen and respond.
Select missing word	You will hear an audiotape recording with a missing word or words. You are required to select the missing part from the given options. The students are provided with 30 to 60 seconds to listen to the audio and record the response.
Highlight incorrect words	In this type of question, candidates are provided a transcript written on the screen, and an audio clip is played for the same script. Students must identify and select the words by left-clicking on them that are different from the words in the lecture from the audio clip. The time allotted to complete this task is 15-50 seconds.
Write from dictation	In the ‘Write from Dictation’ type of questions, you must attentively listen to the sentence stated in an audio clip that is automatically played. You need to type the sentence with the exact words spoken. The time allotted to complete this task is 3-5 seconds.

Written Discourse	The examiner evaluates your answer structure in a logical progression and the significance of your points or arguments. Your job is to draw a conclusion from what a speaker says and forecast how he or she will go on.
Following the oral sequencing of information	You are required to identify the topic, supporting ideas, or instances, summarize the primary concept and infer context, purpose, or tone. You should be capable of absorbing explicit and implicit information, as well as concrete and abstract information.

Strategies to Ace the PTE Listening Test

6. Highlight Incorrect Summary

Move the mouse cursor as the audio clip is played.
Pay attention and immediately click the word that differs from the recording.
Even if you wrongly clicked one word, do not go back and deselect it immediately, or else the speaker will finish several more words that you will completely miss.
In the end, remember those that you clicked incorrectly since you can then deselect them all by again left-clicking on them.

7. Write for Diction

Some people like to jot down notes as the statement is being spoken. It may be beneficial to write the initials of the words spoken.
Others with strong memories must concentrate on the sentence and recollect it as they write it.
Make time to double-check and proofread your work.
Grammar, spelling, style, and discourse are all important in this situation.
