The position of women in society has changed markedly in the last twenty years. Many of the problems young people now experience, such as juvenile delinquency, arise from the fact that many married women now work and are not at home to care for their children. Sample Essay
Our society has significantly changed over the past few years. Right from the developmental strides to the betterment in the status of women, the facet of the modern world has definitely been beautified. To this, some people put forth that the increasing crime rate is due to the employment of women as that curtails the attention given to children. I completely disagree with this notion. In the paragraphs to follow, I shall put across my point of view on the topic.
The mushrooming crime rates and the upbringing have often been correlated to each other. However, they needn’t always be relevant to each other. Particularly highlighting employment of women is extremely shallow as an argument. When we talk about raising kids and bringing the child up, that implicitly suggests the role of parents and that parenthood is uniformly vested in the hands of a mother and a father. In such a scenario, pointing the finger at women’s employment for the ruffled state of society or alarming transgression is pointless. In addition to that, surveys have found that children are more likely to be induced by their peers, and it has been reported that, more often than not, juvenile felony is conducted under the pressure of the circle one is a part of.
Employment and the disruption in the patriarchal system by proliferation of women empowerment and changing gender norms have in fact, brought about the changes in the mentality of the people today. With that, the awareness of women’s rights, their prerogatives and entitlements have seen a significant improvement. Hence, the cases are being brought into the notice of the mainstream administration and judiciary, more than ever. Simply put, reporting the misdemeanors have been indisputably increased. However, that doesn’t imply that the crimes and felonious acts didn’t find an occurrence earlier or any less of them took place twenty or thirty years ago. The reality is with the modernisation of the society, betterment in the plight of women and upgradation in the awareness of the people, cases are being registered today, and the delinquencies are being shed the light upon. Something which was considered normal in the prior times, such as the dowry system that was normalized a decade or two ago, is now taken seriously.
Though some might consider that since both the parents are working, children might not be taken proper care of, this doesn’t guarantee that the father or the mother at home would be hovering over their kids all the time and, therefore, doesn’t guarantee an assuage in the crime rates.
Conclusively, we may therefore say that holding women’s employment accountable for the increasing delinquency rates is not plausible.
