Sample Essay
Punishment is a form of opportunity that a person is given to atone for their wrong deed/s and bring about a change in themself. Many people believe that any person who has committed murder needs to be hanged to death, while quite a few believe that killing someone without giving to a chance to reform is not the right way. According to me, the latter one has a correct outlook as, and I support the notion of the essay.
There are two groups of people who commit murder – one who does it for pleasure or vengeance and the other who is forced to commit this heinous crime for self-protection. While the first should be stringently acted upon, the second one needs consideration. In our society, many people, due to psychological factors, are becoming more violent and perverted. They tend to commit crimes like rape and murder. It is necessary to stop these kinds of things by making them repent. Correctional homes with rigorous rules should be set up for them without being partial to people in power. On the other hand, for people, mostly women, who do it for self-defence, should be given a scope to repent as they have not done it on purpose. But capital punishment for any one of these should be avoided.
Life cannot be created by humans. They are instrumental in the process of procreation, but the only source of life is the creator Himself. So, even if a person undertakes the action to end the life of his kin, society’s responsibility is to punish him in a way to make him realize his mistake. The final decision of his action lies elsewhere. Moreover, if the words of Martin Luther King Jr. is to be taken into consideration that ‘If we do an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, we will be a blind and toothless nation’, then every individual will be responsible for the murder of a person, even if he has committed a hideous action. Further, many people believe that killing the murderer will not bring back the victim, so it is advisable to let the criminal live in such conditions that he/she will understand the gravity of the crime.
However, the courts and society need to check the actions of some people who have committed the action for fun or pleasure or show no sign of remorse. But it does not mean capital punishment will be the only way.
Finally, I would like to deduce that death or capital punishment should be avoided at all costs, as many people change when given a proper chance.
