Sample Essay
Nowadays, there’s a difference of opinion regarding art galleries, whether they should only keep local and homegrown arts or should works of art from other parts of the world be allowed. This essay will elucidate why the latter argument seems apt.
Art has been one of the few commonalities of all the cultures that have ever lived. It is a way to understand and analyse our origins and history, how humans came into existence and all the erstwhile tales of survival that our ancestors could record. Such historical art came much before our current boundaries were established, and depriving someone of that important learning based on international borders seems arbitrary. Therefore, allowing museums to exhibit local as well as international artefacts is the best way to treat art as a union of all cultures in the world.
Furthermore, art is a language. And, almost everyone in their lives became familiar with the works of revolutionaries that belonged to other countries. Different people draw motivation from various art forms or artists around the world according to their personality and choice. For instance, Indian contemporaries take as much inspiration from Picasso, Van Gogh and Da Vinci just as they are invigorated by M.F. Hussain and Amrita Shergill inspire them. Thus, the universality of art should not be limited to a specific region, as this predominant nature of art also brings people from the diverse corners of the planet together.
Despite the above facts, it is true that displaying only local works of art in museums and galleries will hugely benefit local artists. They will get the recognition they deserve, in addition to the remuneration. But, from a historical perspective, putting impositions on art has never stopped it from being admired. Even more so, now is the time to show unity within different nations and regions.
Hence, art and craft from a region should not be limited to display in that region only. It should rather be allowed to be celebrated by admirers anywhere and everywhere.
