The bar chart below shows the percentage participation of men in senior development in three companies between 1980 and the year 2010. Summarise the information by selecting and report in the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Model answer 01:

The bar chart shows the percentage of men in senior development position in three companies from 1980 to 2010.

While more men were in senior positions at Apple than other two companies in 1980 at 15%, the trend was fairly erratic with a 2% drop to 13% in 1985, followed by a rise of 1% five years later. In 1995, men held 7% more top development jobs than in 1990. After a slight drop back to 19% in 2000, by 2010 25% of top posts were filled by men.

By contrast, at IBM men fared much better. In 1980, 2% of senior posts were occupied by men with no change five years on. By 1990, the figure had increased to 13%, doubling to 26 per cent in 1995. Five years afterwards, there was a 6% increase in male senior development jobs with a near twofold jump in 2010 to stand at 63%, the highest for the three companies.

The situation was less remarkable at Microsoft than the other two firms except for the year 2010. In 1980, the percentage of senior posts held by men was 8% climbing at the rate of 2% in each subsequent period until 2000, after which it leapt to 45%. From the data, it is clear that men dominated senior posts at IBM by 2010.

The provided bar graph compares the number of male senior developers in three major software companies namely IBM, Microsoft and Apple between 1980 and 2010. As is presented in the graph, Initially Apple had the largest percentage of senior development employees but after 30 years IBM employed the largest percentage of such employees.

As is presented in the bar graph, initially in 1980, IBM had less than 3% senior male developers while Microsoft had 8% and Apple had about 15% such senior developers. After 10 years in 1990, the percentage become almost same for these three companies. In 1995, the percentage of senior male employees in IBM got largest among the given three company and this kept on increasing till 2010. Finally in 2010, IBM had the largest percentage of such employees making more than 60% while Microsoft had 45% and Apple had about 25% of such senior developers.
In summary, the number of male senior developers increased in all the three companies but the rate of increase in IBM and Microsoft were much more higher than the Apple.

The bar chart depicts the information about the percentage participation of men working positions as a senior development in three different companies (IBM, Microsoft, and Apple) in 1980 until 2010. As shown in the bar chart, the IBM company has the most rapid growth of men working as a senior development. It features that in 1980 and 1985 the percentage of men was only slightly above 0% and began to increase in 1990 with slightly above 10% up to 63% in 2010. Different with the Microsoft company which shows a more average growth of men working in a senior development posts in the first few years with slightly under 10% in 1980 and began to rise up to 45% in the year of 2010. However, the most fluctuate growth of percentage participation of men as a senior development works in Apple company. Even though in the year 1980 it has the highest percentage of men working with 15% it then began to fall about 2% in 1985 and began to rise again in 1990 until 1995. Then began to decrease in 2000 with slightly under 20% before it arose again to 25% in 2010. From the information of the bar chart, the IBM company shows the highest rate of percentage of men working in a senior development positions. (218 words)

Model answer 04:

The bar graph illustrates the percentage of men in senior position in three companies over a period of thirty years. Overall, there were upward trends in the proportion of males who participated in senior position in all three companies and the most significant increase can be seen in the figure of IBM. In 1980, IBM had the lowest percentage of senior posts filled by men (just 2%) whereas that of Microsoft and Apple was 8% and 15% respectively. The same situation remained constantly in five year later. However, there was a dramatic change in that percentage of IBM company over the next ten years when the figure was nearly as same as that of two other firms in 1990 and was more 60%in 2010 ,which was more double times than that of Apple and one-half times than that of Microsoft By the contrast, without the exception occurred in the year of 2010, a slighly rise in the percentage of senior male employees observed at Microsoft company with about 2% rise per five year between 1980 to 2000. The similar pattern can not applied for Apple because the percentage of these men fluctuated, nevertheless it was not over 25 % over the period shown.
