In the ancient era, the human race discovered how to create fire, invented the wheel, and laid the foundation for today’s printing technology. Later on, in the industrial era, they built more complex machinery and started to use motorised vehicles. Although all these facilities have proved their great significance to all mankind throughout history, some state that the single most important invention is the Internet. From my perspective, such a statement is an exaggeration, despite some benefits of the Internet.
In this digital era, the Internet helps store, communicate, and disseminate information quickly and conveniently. As a key method of storing data, an increasingly high number of people upload their files onto the Internet. Microsoft’s OneDrive, for example, is a cloud storage service that provides file storage services for tens of millions of people. Furthermore, as an important means of communication, the Internet enables people to get in touch with their friends easily. This can be clearly seen in the case of Snap Chat, a messaging application with millions of users monthly. Finally, the Internet serves as an important tool that facilitates the dissemination of information. An excellent example of this is Facebook, a social network that acts as a virtual platform helping one spread their ideas whenever and wherever they want.
Although the power of the Internet cannot be overstated, I firmly believe that there are even more valuable inventions. The first is electricity, without which almost all electronic devices cannot function. In other words, the Internet could be of no use if there were no electricity. The second is engines, which can be seen in a great diversity of facilities, from the old hydropower locomotives to today’s luxury solar-powered airplanes. If there were no engines, people would have to use animal-powered or human-powered vehicles, which are often much slower than their motorised counterparts. To illustrate, the top pace of an average camel is 30 miles per hour, half that of a car on a highway. The final and most important discovery, from my point of view, is mobile phones, which are the physical platform for various forms of digital communication. Today, billions are using mobile phones to make calls and send text messages on a daily basis, a much greater number than that of those using the Internet for the same purpose.
To sum up, the Internet has some enormous advantages for the human race, but there are even more significant discoveries, including electricity, engines, and mobile phones. I predict that along with the Internet, these three inventions will still be the cornerstones of future humanity.
Band 9 Sample Essay
The human mind, as is correctly ordained to be, is a pandora box of endless possibilities and creative ideas. After all, it’s the human brain that sets humans idiosyncratic and apart from all other species. Time and again, we have proved that the trolly of development and innovation shall drift ceaselessly along the cord of our intellectual yield, be it a wheel or the discovery of fire. The Internet is one such major breakthrough in the human race that has dramatically morphed the way we used to live earlier. Owing to the multifarious usages of the internet, some people consider it to be the most significant invention to date. However, I partly disagree with this opinion and in the subsequent paragraphs, I shall be highlighting the reasons for the same.
The Digital epoch that we live in today is majorly inclined towards the usage of the internet which has cosied our lifestyle in a substantial manner. However, undermining all other scientific contrivances and leaps is stringently unfair. For communication, for instance, the telephones and then the mobile phones came into the picture that facilitated our lives by making it possible for us to convey and receive messages. The invention of automobiles to assuage our commute was yet another bonanza for us. Television, electricity, medical instruments, etc. are all equally important and thinking about our lives without any of them is hardly imaginable.
Secondly, as is said, in a journey, it’s not the destination solely that matters. It’s the stations that fell across the way that count adds to the thrill, and the same goes with the invention of the internet. Had there been no computers and technological modifications beforehand, the way for the internet wouldn’t have been paved. Computers that were invented to store and compute larger sets of data and its processing is the principal skeletal framework on which cloud computing and various other dynamics of the modern world internet basically works upon. Moreover, the networking and the foundational nuance of the internet got their very essence in 1969 with APPRANET. Therefore, it could be seen as a yield of various inventions and revolutions prior to its emergence.
Without faltering on the essence of the internet, it indeed has been a boon to mankind that has made our lives extremely facile, however, deeming it to be the most important invention is not apt as on various fronts, there are innumerable strides that have been made that are so indispensably essential that living without them could be considered fairly impossible.
Conclusively, it could thus be stated that though the internet has been a technological ablation for each one of us, it is assuredly not the single most important scientific yield that we have been blessed by so far.

Human history has been filled with inventions, which have certainly eased the hardships faced by mankind. And some people consider internet to be the most beneficial of them all. I totally agree with this. Two arguments in support of this view and a counter argument are presented below, along with conclusion.
Internet has contributed to global connectivity. This has facilitated globalization as businesses are now able to operate overseas, and manage their operations remotely. For instance, numerous MNCs employ staff from developing countries, such as India, and enable staff to control operations in a foreign country. It is undeniable that this ease of operating in several countries simultaneously, has been turned into reality by internet. Therefore, if internet was not available, the world would be isolated and with limited trade.
Moreover, internet provides us with solutions to the innumerable problems that we face. It enables children to learn various aspects while being at home. Previously, this was not possible. For examples, schools nowadays, send assignments to children on e-mail and many teaching sessions can be conducted online. There are a plethora of courses available online. And we would not have been able to benefit from it if internet had not existed. So, internet is indispensable because of it’s wide range of uses in the modern world.
However, the usage of internet has several cons. Although internet provides numerous advantages to us, one should be cautious while using it. This is predominantly because of a surge in cyber crime, existence of malware and viruses, which can disrupt the functioning of our system and steal confidential data. There has been a rise in antivirus softwares, but this alone is not sufficient to curb the danger of sensitive data theft. So, it is imperative that we exercise caution with it’s usage.
In conclusion, internet has become an essential part of our life. It has proved this by enabling globalization and providing several other uses. It will not be wrong to say that this world would be a different place to live without internet.
