Band 7 Sample Answer For IELTS Writing Task 2 Question – Some People Say that it is Better to Work for a Larger Company than a Small One
It is argued that many individuals prefer joining big companies over small ones. I firmly disagree with this idea and believe that smaller firms offer better career growth for employees due to increased hard day-by-day and closer teamwork. This essay will discuss the same and argue in support of the startup companies with appropriate examples.
To begin with, in start-up companies, all the employees’ from associates to managers work closely which lets everyone learn more skills overall. Moreover, multiple teams collaborate closely, allowing individuals to gain a deeper understanding of their work and the as well as the work of other teams as well. For example, in big software companies, employees are divided into two teams namely, the front-end and back-end developers. But in a smaller company, both these teams work as one, letting every member of the team know almost both the backend and the front-end skills.
Adding on to this, mostly in smaller firms, individuals have more responsibility and their contributions are more noticeable. Unlike larger companies where success is often given to the team rather than the individual who did the work, start-up companies highlight individual achievements. This increased visibility increases the chances of that particular person’s promotion and career advancement.
In conclusion, while big companies have their positives, I believe that smaller firms offer greater potential for career growth and promotion. The visibility of individual contributions and the close teamwork made in smaller companies provide employees with valuable opportunities to advance in their future careers.

Band 8 Sample Answer For IELTS Writing Task 2 Question – Some People Say that it is Better to Work for a Larger Company than a Small One
In today’s bustling job market, the debate over whether it is preferable to work for a large company or a smaller business is an ongoing one. I strongly believe that working for a large company has more advantages than working in a smaller firm.
Firstly, large companies provide more additional benefits compared to startups. These benefits often include health insurance, retirement plans, and various employee wellness programs. For instance, multinational corporations like Google offer extensive healthcare coverage and retirement plans, considering the well-being and security of their employees. In contrast, smaller companies may struggle to provide such wide benefits due to their limited resources.
Additionally, big firms offer greater opportunities for career advancement and professional development. With larger organizational structures and many departments, employees have more chances to explore different career paths and gain valuable experiences. For example, within a larger company, an entry-level employee may have the opportunity to transition between roles in finance, marketing, or human resources, and hence it will broaden their skill set to level up their career. In contrast, employees in smaller companies may find limited opportunities to enhance their skill set and career growth opportunities due to the company’s size and limited resources.
In conclusion, while both large and small companies have their own set of advantages, working for a large company offers many benefits such as wellness-benefit packages and greater opportunities for career advancements. Hence, for employees who look for stability, growth, and wider opportunities, working for a large company is undoubtedly the best choice.

Band 9 Sample Answer For IELTS Writing Task 2 Question – Some People Say that it is Better to Work for a Larger Company than a Small One
When it comes to choosing between working for a large company or a small one, people’s opinions might vary. While some argue that working for a big firm is better than being a part of a startup, I disagree. This essay will elaborate my points on this with examples.
First off, small companies often offer a more close-knit and supportive work environment which is good to learn a wide range of skills. In smaller teams, employees tend to know each other better and can collaborate more closely without hassle. For example, in a startup restaurant, employees may feel like part of a small and strong community, resulting in strong bonds and happy teamwork. This supportive atmosphere can enhance job satisfaction and the employee’s overall well-being.
Moreover, smaller firms often provide more opportunities for career growth and advancements since there are limited departments, the employees may have the chance to take on more responsibilities and grow more quickly. For instance, in a small startup company, employees may have the opportunity to take up diverse roles, allowing them to develop a broader skill set and advance their careers at a faster pace compared to an individual who works in a single-allocated team in a multi-national company.
In conclusion, while large companies may offer certain advantages such as stability and additional benefits, working for a small company can provide a more supportive environment and greater opportunities for personal and professional growth. However, the choice between working for a large or small company depends on individual preferences and career goals.
