An often debated topic is whether advertising has a major influence on the growing similarity of people’s lifestyles in the modern world. I partly agree with this opinion for a number of reasons.

On the one hand, the power of advertising is undeniable. The growth of the advertising industry has resulted in many people buying products of the same manufacturer, which can be seen in the case of consumer goods. Today, the advertising campaigns of multinational companies such as Unilever have been so successful that their products almost dominate the market. Smaller enterprises tend not to be able to compete with these giant market leaders due to their disadvantages of capital poured into advertising programs. Thus, customers are often swayed to buy products of famous brands rather than those made by less well-known companies.
On the other hand, it is also true that people tend to copy others’ lifestyles without being affected by advertising. For example, it is valid to argue that many young people are trying to emulate their idols’ fashion styles. Many manage to purchase the same clothes, dye their hair, and wear the same perfume as their stars do. People can also turn to their social relations for advice when they need to buy something. For instance, junior citizens usually ask their friends before they come to a final decision on buying a smartphone.
In conclusion, advertising has indeed the gap between each individual’s lifestyle in modern society. However, I believe that it is not the sole factor that contributes to the trend.

The change in the preferences of the public is evident in their increasing demand for products with great appearances. These modernistic tastes of the people are greatly influenced by advertising. Recently, advertising has become the primary mode of communicating and attracting present and potential customers. There is a debate on whether the mass impact that contemporary marketing techniques have on the global population is unsettling or not. I am an ardent believer in the fact that commercials have more negative outcomes than positive ones. In the following paragraphs, I will elaborate on the topic and justify my views on the same.
The transformation of marketing strategies over the years has been an indicator of how target audiences are to be captured. Presently, customers have to be coerced into buying products rather than retaining customers by meeting their demands. This phenomenon has led a majority of the global population into making similar and unoriginal choices. Although the blame in its entirety cannot be put on present-day marketing, the fact has to be acknowledged that it is one of the key causes of such customer behaviours.
Furthermore, this inclination towards popular and fashionable commodities has indirectly raised the standards of living and socialising to outrageously high levels. Currently, if an individual is not up to speed with the latest trends, they are invariably labelled as outcasts. The idea of meeting all the ludicrous requirements that celebrities and ‘influencers’ have unknowing set has become the fantasy of this generation.
However, there are corporations that spread positivity and a sense of harmony through their marketing campaigns. That being said, most multinationals keep the growth of sales as the central aim of promotional activities.
In conclusion, I would like to say that the importance of rationality and realization regarding the fact that material possessions will not lead to a better life is vital in achieving a more fulfilling manner of living.
