Before we look at the difference between IELTS and PTE. Let’s get to know some information about both these exam types.
IELTS:
IELTS is an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non native speakers.This test is of two types: Academic and General.IELTS academic ,as the name suggests, is specifically for those, who want to migrate for educational purposes.IELTS general is for those who want to migrate for PR.
PTE:
Pearson language Tests is a unit of PLC group which assesses and validates the english language usage of non native speakers.The tests include PTE Academic, PTE General and PTE Young Learners.This is the test which can prove your english ability in order to migrate to Australia.Therefore, this is a major part of Australian visa applications and accepted by all Australian Universities.

Which is better?
IELTS and PTE Academic are quite equal in terms of scoring. There are however sections that tend to be more difficult or easier than the others. IELTS tends to be more difficult in the writing section. The standards for IELTS in the writing sections is very high.Whereas, PTE has a computer based speaking test where the test taker has to speak into the microphone, which many find difficult and awkward compared to the face to face exam set up by IELTS.
Validation:
IELTS is valid for Canada immigration whereas PTE is not valid when it comes to immigration for the purpose of permanent residence. However, thousands of universities in Canada, Europe, France and Norway accept PTE and IELTS both.For immigration purposes, PTE is accepted only in Australia.IELTS is accepted in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and UK.
